Kentucky Spring Planting Guide

March 12, 2019

It's March and the warmer weather will be here before we know it (at least we REALLY hope it is!), which means it's time to start planning our family's garden, one of our very favorite Spring time activities! We do both an herb garden and a vegetable garden. Some things we start from seeds that we order online, and some plants we purchase at our local nursery and plant in our raised bed garden. We put on old clothes, get out our gardening tools and supplies, and let the digging begin!

My son's favorite food to plant is carrots. He loves to pull them out of the ground and pretend that he is Bugs Bunny. It's a fun way to get him to eat his vegetables, especially since carrots are the only orange food that he will eat! Spinach is this mom's favorite vegetable to plant. I love being able to walk out my door and pick a quick handful to throw into an omelet in the morning, or to sneak in the boys' smoothies. Plus, I've always had a green thumb when it comes to growing spinach (not something I can say about everything we grow!). We'll be getting both, carrots and spinach, in the ground this month. How exciting!

Here is a list of when to plant what if you live in central Kentucky. I always refer to this list every Spring. I hope you find it helpful!

Gardening can really make food fun for your family, as well as getting kids to try new foods (and I'll take all the help I can get in that department!)

Happy Gardening Season!
